My Amazing Valentine’s Day

So I got a little surprise last Monday…
In the middle of the day I got an email from Jake telling me that we had a flight that night to go to Las Vegas for Valentine’s day, that we were getting massages in the morning, and seeing Phantom of the Opera (my FAVORITE broadway) later that night. He had schemed with my friend, April, from work to get me the time off about a month or so earlier and I had no idea. She had already checked with my boss, so it was all set. I was soooo excited!
So I went home and packed after work, met Jake, and we flew down to Vegas. Our flight was a little bit delayed so we just ended up eating in Salt Lake before the flight. We got in and checked into the hotel. We stayed at the Hard Rock.
The first night we got ready and just had fun hanging out. Jake taught me out to play blackjack, so now I’m a pro 🙂

Just playing the slots…

The next day we got massages at the Roni Josef Salon & Spa. It was amazing. Im pretty sure I was in a daze the entire time. It’s probably one of my favorite things to do.
Then Jake and I walked the Strip…we actually considered doing the bungee thing from the Stratosphere, but then decided not to because it was pretty cold and we wouldn’t really have had time for anything else. Also because staring at it from the bottom made me want to pee my pants. We watched a guy do it and it didn’t look too bad, because you just come down on a wire instead of bounce back up, but still…

Ah, lovers…

Of course, he put up with me shopping, because he said it was my day 🙂 Such a sweetheart. I wasn’t as mean as I could have been though…just a few hours 🙂
We did make a pit stop for some food at Max Brenner’s…which I love!

This is me picking out my dress for the night…Ted Baker. Kind of obsessed. Not gonna lie. I LOVE to dress shop.

After that we headed back for a nap…shopping takes it out of me. haha.
Next stop…PHANTOM!!!
Ohmigosh I cannot tell you how much I love this show! I could literally see it 100 times and never get sick of it. Since I was three years old I have known all of the words to every song, and I am obsessed with this story. It’s so tragic and sad, but I love it.
Anyway, I saw it in New York last March, and this one was just as good. If any of you have the chance to go see it, you should. It’s leaving Vegas in September after being there for five years so don’t miss out!
I’m so glad that Jake knows me so well and also likes to go to shows. He’s the best ever!

In the Venetian after the show.

Decorations at the Palazzo

Palazzo Waterfall

Originally we were going to go to 35 Steaks and Martinis in the Hard Rock, but our Reservations didn’t work out, so we were able to make some for after the show at Table 10 in the Palazzo. It was really good. I had a white fish with lobster stuff on top, and Jake had the ribeye…I was sooo full afterwards. Yummy yummy.

Just being funny 🙂

My girl, Taylor Swift…Hard Rock has the most fun stuff from musicians all over the place. It’s really cool to go around and look at.

Ah Vegas, until next time. I’ll take my $38 and go home happy.

Best surprise ever! Thank you Jake for making me feel so special. For sure my best Valentine’s Day ever! I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it with anybody else.

Weekend at the Farm

A few weekends ago at the farm…

Just making some homemade Broccoli Cheese Soup…so yummy!

One of my goals for this year and for the new year is to learn how to cook more new things…so I’ve already started 🙂

The next day we took a drive to the hot pots nearby…despite all of my protesting about it being stinky and cold outside, they really weren’t that bad. They were way cleaner than other ones that I’ve been too and not that stinky. But it was freezing outside, so I had to change super fast and RUN to the heater in the car. 🙂

All weekend, the sky was sooo pretty.

Hanging out at the farm.

Don’t mind my half dried hair…but this little farm kitty is the cutest thing ever. He is the biggest puff ball and he comes right up to you and wants to play. Most of them are kind of shy and run away.

This night, we made scallops, filet mignon, rolls, and lemon meringue pie 🙂 So yummy again. I LOVE scallops.

Finished product.

Vegas Christmas Party – Saturday Night

This will probably go down as the best Company Christmas Party ever. Amazing food, fun people, fabulous wardrobe, limo rides, and a perfect party!
We first met in the lobby of the Palazzo for pictures with the photographer. (which I cannot wait to see! For a sneak peak, take a look here. I will for sure post those when we get our cds later this week!)
I love everyone’s glitter!

Jake and I walking up to dinner.

Our first stop was Sushi Samba! I went there in New York for my birthday dinner and it was amazing, but I have to say that way my boss and his wife do it is a little different…so amazing. We probably tried about 20 different things. We had appetizers, which ranged from mini fish tacos, to shishito peppers and edamame, to some sort of popstickers…then moved to a bunch of different kinds of sashimi sushi…then to raw meat the you cook on this burning hot rock and it grills it at your table (see picture below)…then we had lobster, sea bass, and filet minon…then a bunch of different kind of sushi rolls…then dessert. Needless to say it was the best sushi I have ever had!

Next stop…we hopped in two big limos and rode over to Mastro’s Ocean Club for our Awards Ceremony and more food! Again, I thought I was going to die…so good! The dessert had no words. I’m pretty sure I actually heard people moaning while eating it. My pictures are not very good because my camera was being weird, but I’m sure the photographer will have some I can post later. They still won’t do it justice.
Not to toot my own horn, but I won Best Dressed for the fun awards :)…and then for the serious ones I won Processor of the Year. That meant a lot considering that it was voted on by the whole office over the course of the year and I’ve been working really hard this year! It made me feel appreciated and like my extra hours and effort has not gone unnoticed.

In the limo

I believe they call this the atomic shrimp…it’s the biggest shrimp I’ve ever seen.

Third destination – Dancing at Tryst. This was actually really fun because usually you don’t get to hang out with people from your office when you can all just let loose and be “crazy”. A group of us went over and danced until after 3 and headed home…I usually like to live in heels, but I will say my feet were a little sore after this weekend 🙂

Outside by the waterfall – I’m not sure what in the world I’m doing, but everyone else looks good 🙂 I think my hair had had it by then…I must have been getting my willow on and “whipping it back and forth”. What can I say? How often are you in Vegas at 3am?

Vegas – Saturday Shopping

And my Vegas vacation continues…with shopping on Saturday 🙂
I carried my sparkle theme to Saturday even in the daytime as you can see. What can I say…I’m Taylor Swift at heart. A bunch of us met for lunch at Max Brenner’s.So Yummy. I highly recommend it as well. Try the Fries dusted with Chili and Cocoa powder and dip them in a shake!
(Kristin, Emily, Lindy, April, Me, Jenn)

The holiday decorations at the Bellagio…those bears are completely made of flowers.

Then we went over to the new hotel, Cosmopolitan. I loved it! There are chandeliers everywhere! It’s gorgeous. And I just had to hop into this giant sized shoe.

We walked around and shopped all over the place…Notice that I do not have a single bag in my hand…I know right? So unlike me…I don’t know why I didn’t end up with anything…but never fear I am heading to California next week so South Coast hear I come! Haha!

Gingerbread Man

The Gingerbread Man and how he began

4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 Tbs ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
3/4 c molasses
red hots, raisins, frosting

1. In a medium-sized bowl, sift the flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and baking soda. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar with a wooden spoon or electric mixer. Add the eggs, one at a time, and then the molasses. Slowly add the flour mixture to the molasses mixture, sutffin after each addition with the wooden spoon or mixer (the dough should be stiff).
3. Divide the dough in half, flatten into a think pancake, and cover with plastic wrap (or put it in ziploc bags). Refrigerate for 2 hours, or until firm enough to roll out. (If dough becomes too stiff, soften for 10 minutes at room temperature for easy rolling).
4. Preheat oven to 350. Dust the counter generously with flour, roll out the dough to a 1/4 in thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out gingerbread men and a spatula to transfer to a greased cookie sheet, spacing them 1 inch apart. Press in red hots and raisins.
5. Bake 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Be careful as you remove the gingerbread men from the oven, this is the time they are most likely to run away, at which time a terrible chase scene ensues.

“Run, run, run, fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man!”
