Stars and Stripes for the Fourth!

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. (I feel like I say this about every holiday! I just love holidays ok! I love getting a day off work, celebrations, good food, and  dressing up!) After searching around I found a lot of great things to wear for the 4th! Some are a little crazy and just for fun and some are more classic, so you’ll have to choose which style you want to go for! I’m not sure what I’ll be doing that day yet, but I’m hoping that it involves some sun, hot dogs, and fireworks!

What I Wore – Fourth of July Outfits

I love to dress up for holidays…When I’m old and a Grandma I’m totally going to be one of those crazy ladies who wears the patriotic or festive holiday sweaters even when it’s 102 degrees outside (at least it will work for Christmas right?) Whatever, I like to dress up. I think it’s fun.

So here are my Fourth of July outfits from the past few days. The first is what I wore to work on the third.

Shirt – J.Crew; Pants – Forever 21; Earrings – Anthropologie; Bracelets – J.Crew; Ring – Banana (firecracker ring); Shoes – Hinge

Then for our BBQ that night I switched it up to some shorts and sandals…it was just too hot to be in pants.

Shorts – J.Crew; Sandals – Urban Outfitters.

And for the 4th!

Shirt – Victoria Secret; Bracelets – J.Crew; Necklaces – Dogeared and Aerie; Shorts – American Eagle; Shoes – Vans.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July!!!

4th of July Nails! TWO TUTORIALS

BABY YOU’RE A FIREWORK! Well…at least your nails can be right? 🙂

Here are some fun ideas for festive fourth nails! Try pumping it up a notch with glitter and sparkle to match the fireworks on the big night.

You could even recycle these and be Wonder Woman for Halloween 🙂

Tutorial #1: Stars and Stripes (from Teen Vogue Online)

step 1: apply your base, a matte white

step 2: add stripes using a precision polish brush.

step 3: add glitter. once your stripes dry go over again with a glitter polish. can add dry glitter to wet polish, but using glitter polish works better.

step 4: draw a star. using a nail art pen is the easiest way. add gold around the edge or stripes behind for fun effect.

step 5: go over to seal with top coat.

All Done!!!

Tutorial #2: Splatter Paint Nails

(You can use any color, but I thought this was fun in red, white, and blue)

What you’ll need:
– 1 paper plate
– Tape and scissors
– A couple of Q-tips
– Nail polish remover
– 1 straw cut in half. Using a shorter straw will give you more control over the splatter.
– Any 3 nail polishes colors.

How to Splatter Nail Paint:

  1. Paint your nails opaque white and let dry.
  2. Take a strip of tape and wrap around the finger just under the cuticle. Take another piece of tape and wrap from one side of the nail all the way around to the other side. Taping will make cleanup much easier.
  3. Place a few drops of polish onto your paper plate and dip one end of the straw into the polish (hold a few seconds to make sure the polish covers the entire hole of the straw).
With your nail on the plate, place the straw about 2-3 inches from your nail and use a quick breath to blow out the polish. This part is important… pretend you’re enunciating the word “two” instead of blowing with a “hoo.”  Repeat for all 10 nails.
  4. Repeat step 3 with your second polish color.
  5. Once you’re done splattering polish, remove the tape. Dip the Q-tip into the nail polish remover and use it to clean up the excess polish.

the 4th

This year I went down to Jake’s and hung out for the 4th. We went to the parade first where Kale collected candy from all of the cars and floats.

Then we went to the Delta Festival and listened to Jake’s Dad and some other people speak, grabbed some food, and walked around the booths.

After that Jake’s cousins were having a little party so we went over there to cool off and eat more (of course).

We headed back to the festival with all of the kids so they could do the “trout catching”. It was so funny. Jake kept helping Kale try to catch them, so he would grab a big one and tell Kale to come over, but Kale would yell, “No! I want a little one!” Well, he ended up with a big one.

Later that night we went to the Demolition Derby and watched fireworks.

Such a fun day!
