I had been wanting to do a Cleopatra costume for a while, but I keep seeing them everywhere so I decided that I would kind of do a different take on it and combined it with a Mummy. I love the glam look it gives the normally creepy mummy. I also thought it would be more fun to show the classic Egyptian eye makeup, but keeping the gauze off my face, so we decided to wrap my ponytail with it instead!
Keep reading to find out how I made this costume!
The costume itself actually wasn’t very hard. I found almost everything I needed for pretty cheap on Amazon. Everything is linked below!
I started with a nude stretchy slip. The one problem I realized was that if I glued all the gauze on, it wouldn’t stretch very much to pull over my body when I went to actually dress up. So I didn’t glue the gauze on until the day of. I wrapped and overlapped about 20 pieces of gauze around myself in circled and glued it to the slip as I went. I got a little bit of help with Jill and Tatum for that! The night before I dirtied the gauze by using some bronzer and a tiny bit of brown and black eyeshadow. I tried doing it with dirt, but it just made the gauze ball up and the color didn’t stay very well. I also used a little bit of the bronze hair color to spray on the gauze once I had it wrapped around me. I used a little bit in my hair as well for some shimmer.
For my hair, Tatum just wrapped 1-2 pieces of the dirtied gauze around my ponytail. And then I just added all the gold jewelry! For a homemade costume it actually wasn’t too bad. The longest part was making the gauze dirty!
